Scilab is a scientific software package for numerical calculation provide a open strong computing environment to engineering and scientific application. Developed since 1990 by researcher from ENPC and INRIA, now maintained and developed by Scilab Consortium since its creation in May 2003. Distributed freely and open source (see the license) via Internet since 1994, Scilab are is this time used in educational environment and industry around the world. Scilab includes hundreds of function mathematical with possibility to add interactive programs from multilingual (C, Fortran...). It have the sophisticated data structure (include lists, polynomials, rational function, linear system...), a interpreter and a high level programming language. Scilab have been designed to a open system where do user can define the new data type and operation in this data type by using overloading. A number of toolboxes is available with the system:
- Linear algebra, sparse matrices
- Polynomials and rational functions
- 2-D and 3-D graphics, animation
- Signal processing
- Metanet: graphs and networks
- Parallel Scilab using PVM
- Simulation: ODE solver and DAE solver
- Scicos: a hybrid dynamic systems modeler and simulator
- Classic and robust control, LMI optimization
- Differentiable and non-differentiable optimization
- Statistics
- Interface with Computer Algebra (Maple, MuPAD)
- Interface with Tck/Tk
- And a large number of contributions for various domains.
