CodeRed Cleanup

CodeRed Cleanup eliminates the virus from your system CodeRed.
The program removes the malicious files installed by the worm virus, reboot the system to delete files from memory hostile, includes an option to permanently disable IIS (Internet Information Service) system.

The program runs from DOS command line.

Windows NT 4.0 with IIS 4.0 or Windows 2000 with IIS 5.0

CLRAV 11.0.0

CLRAV.COM is a free program that takes a few chilobytes and that eliminates some of the most common worm channeled increasingly through the Internet. The program helps identify and delete from your hard drive following the worm: Klez, Lentin (Yaha), Bugbear (Thanatos), Opasoft, Elkern, Goner, Sircam, Navidad, BleBla, Avron and Lovgate.
CLRAV.COM restores also the correct values in the registry of Windows.
CLRAV.COM obviously does not replace a good anti-virus software installed but it is useful to recognize the presence of some of the most dangerous worm virus recently spread particularly through the mail.

To perform a full scan of all files in the system (in addition to analyzing the Windows registry) type at the DOS prompt:

Avast! Home Edition 3.0

Avast! Antivirus Home Edition is a comprehensive and effective package. The program was certified by ICSA and obtained a 100% (all tests superat) by the authoritative Virus Bulletin (see site) in June 2002 in the month test with Windows XP.

The virus has two scanning modes of the system: the former has a dedicated interface for beginners, the second addressed to expert users. Avast can immediately stop the execution of potentially malicious files and programs, consists of a module for scanning e-mail - often vehicle worm - and integrates with Explorer.

The version that we propose is completely free for personal use but needs - after a period of 90 days - a record free from the manufacturer. Registration can be done on site Blufile Ltd, distributor for Italy of Avast, directly on this page.

Avast! Home Edition 3.0

Antivir Personal Edition 6.20.xx

From Germany with fury: a good antivirus software completely free. Able to recognize more than 70,000 different viruses provides a good level of protection for your personal computer without having to spend a penny to buy it and update it.

The program, which incorporates a module to scan the entire system, offers "Virus Guard", which allows real time monitoring of files downloaded from the Internet for viruses. This archive contains versions antivirus for all Windows operating systems (from Windows 95 to Windows XP).

Advanced Anti Keylogger 3.0

Advanced Anti Keylogger is a powerful program - although it is extremely easy to use - that can detect any activity of any keyloggers on your system.

Recall that keyloggers are software that can track all actions that are under your personal computer. In particular, they record all the keys are pressed while using the computer. These tools enable then to check what actions have been completed with your computer, especially if you suspect that this has been used for illegal purposes or in any way improper. It should be emphasized that these instruments should be used only by those who have title and within the law.

The other side of the front: how you can defend against those who install, in an unauthorized manner, the keyloggers on our personal computers? As you can notice the presence of these "intruders"?

First, it should be emphasized even keyloggers are, of course, normal Windows programs, as are the applications we use daily to write, draw graphs, photos, surf the Net Since keyloggers programs, these must necessarily leave a trace on the system.

Keyloggers smarter (some worm makes use of keyloggers ...!) not recognizable between applications or between the processes listed in Task Manager window (CTRL + ALT + DEL).

Advanced Anti Keylogger is able to intercept all attempts to logging keystrokes by the user. Because the software is not based on a database (as in the case of the most popular anti-spyware ...) but intercepts the Windows API functions used by loggers, there is sometimes also reported as suspicious activities software benign. For this reason the user - similar to what happens with a firewall - can configure rules that permit or allow to block the assets of certain applications.

Burrrn

It's a burning program that allows you to burn audio CDs directly from a file as a track only CUE APE, FLAC, MP4, MPC, OGG, MP3, WAV and many other audio formats, more or less common.

The operation of Burrrn, if there are errors in the cue file, or the audio track is impeccable. It a very lightweight, and does not suffer of any kind (especially heavy). By the suggestion remains to convert first track to WAV, then burn through the cue, rather than to do everything internally Burrrn, for reasons explained in the guide for creating an audio CD with high compatibility, and also here.

In summary, it is true that Feurio still consider as the best free program to burn audio CDs, but is a bit complex to use, while Burrrn works well and is easily understandable to everyone. Even the most inexperienced user may be able to create an audio CD from a CUE plus a single track in minutes.

PowerLaserExpress

Now there are so many burning programs free, as described in the category of hitfreeware.blogspot. Some of them are entirely free or partly free and partly paid (that is not among my favorites). Some programs are light, like DeepBurner, other heavier as StarBurn, some of the highest quality, but at present the most developed (better than many counterparts in charge), as Feurio.

PowerLaserExpress arises in the lighter category. This is absolutely unbeatable, since it occupies just over 500kb and requires no installation. Moreover, the GUI (in English) is among the most simple and immediate.

PowerLaserExpress can create CDs and DVDs and create and burn ISO images.
Unfortunately does not support the verification of written data.

NOTE: With some configurations work perfectly. With others (like mine), unfortunately only works partially (work deleting and writing of ISO, but not adding files and folders, in which case it crashes and needs to close the Task Manager).
I suggest you try it, if you look for a program for burning light You'll be satisfied.

PowerLaserExpress

CopyHandler

It a specific program to copy and move files, more efficient file transfer service in Windows. The strength is not only the increased speed of data transfer from one partition to another, the number of options: for example, you can pause download and resume it later, select only a certain type of files by various criteria, shut down the system to copy over, and more.

Overall I tend to prefer taking a habit for many years, programs like FreeCommander (or xplorer2) when it comes to copy and move files around your hard drive. But I recognize that if you learn to make better use CopyHandler, you can get very interesting results.

Attribute Changer

It a beautiful program that allows you to change the date, time and various attributes (read-only, etc.) to a single file or group of files. It works with the right mouse button, using the Explorer context menu (just click the right button on a folder or a drive, for example).

At first glance, Attribute Changer seems elementary, but they look best discover many possibilities to configure it: among other things, you can set filters to automatically change only certain files and not others (for example, change the date and time only to a certain group files on hundreds present).
Among the various features, is the relative mode, where you can simply increase the value of date and time (minutes, hours, days, etc.)..
Plenty of simulation mode, where you can test the changes before making them final.
Remarkable program.

Attribute Changer

RIOT (Radical Image Optimization Tool)

It's a program that allows us to reduce the space occupied by an image, for example if we post on the Web, this is not to use strange formats (actually, you can upload images of many formats), or specific algorithms compression, but tries to let us use the best tools we already have.

For example, we have an image in JPEG 4MB of which we can minimize the space to put it on the Web via the GUI RIOT we will see how we're going to compress the image further, trying to Jpeg compression up (but also trying to exclude extraneous data as EXIF profile, comments, etc.).. The initial and final size of the image are written very clearly, so very easy to make a comparison.

RIOT tries to do his best not only lossy graphic formats, just like JPEG, but also non-lossy formats such as GIF and PNG.

Compress the image if there is sufficient, you can also resize it with good algorithms (Catmull Rom, Lanczos and some others): here, the advantage is that we can see the initial and final images side by side and easily decide if the quality of chosen algorithm satisfies us.

RIOT is also in portable version (no installation required).

GimpShop

It a version of the open source GIMP image editor that has changed the GUI to make it as close as possible to that of Adobe PhotoShop. Photoshop plugins are not supported, but those are the GIMP (which fortunately there are many) also tutorials for the GIMP are almost the same, only to be adapted to different graphical interface.

For the rest, the same things said by Gimp: that is an image editor filters and rich in potential, which can also be used for commercial purposes.

GimpShop

SmillaEnlarger

It an open source portable (no installation required) that allows you to enlarge images.

In theory, the magnification of images is a feature supported by all graphic programs (such as GIMP, Paint.net, etc.). SmillaEnlarger but uses a proprietary algorithm, which should ensure better results.

Apparently it is easy to use, since you can enlarge photos or images automatically without touching any parameters. However, the results are not exceptional in this mode (they are practically the same as in any graphics program) if we want something more we need to go to set the parameters manually. In this case the results of Smilla Enlarger are slightly better, although at the cost of effort (and number of attempts) much greater.

Overall I think SmillaEnlarger is an interesting, but still has considerable room for improvement.

FotoSketcher

It's a program that lets you turn photos into cartoons and drawings, both black and white or color.

There are many different styles of design, from charcoal to watercolors. To make something nice with FotoSketcher, should do a little practice. By trying different types of photographs, I found that works best with small details (such as boats, architectural elements, etc..) Than with faces or human figures.

Many of the color results are nothing special (in fact some have already tried similar functionality in professional programs such as Adobe PhotoShop, and have seen how difficult it is to sound design really a drawing and not a doctored photo), but the transformation in black-and-in many cases very beautiful, and most importantly it is easier to get good results with respect to color processing.

When I say easier, does not mean that FotoSketcher is a program difficult to use (it is really easy), as that required fewer attempts (compared to default parameters) to obtain a successful result.

FotoSketcher

Photofiltre free

The characteristic of Photofiltre that immediately leaps to the eye as soon as you start to try, is the highest number of filters available (I myself have been confused for a moment believe they have opened by mistake Paintshop): there are over 100 filters and effects to choose from our images (from the more classic, like saturation, blur, color correction, etc.. to arrive other decidedly unusual and original).

Ease of use is extreme (it's also a plugin for Italian), only one limit for the free version, that is, to not be able to use the paint layer (layer), as they have Paint.net or Artweaver (layers are available in the shareware version instead). In other words, if you apply filters or effects to an image (taken from a digital camera), Photofiltre is great, but if you add multiple images (some type montage), then Paint.net is essential. However, nothing prevents both of them...

Comical

Comical is a good open source program (there is not only Windows but also Linux and Mac) can display on your computer CBR and CBZ comic book format.

And 'maybe some' slower than in showing CDisplay comics consist of many pages (not so instantaneous loading), it allows you to read the next page simply by double clicking the mouse (or should use the keyboard or click with the mouse on the symbol or not), but the same error.

The quality of the adaptation of page to screen is excellent, so you can choose between several algorithms to reduce, by View-> Image Filter (some are faster, as Bilinear, but display the page more blurred, while others, such as Catmull- Roma are slower, but view the page in a more incisive and brilliant).

Comical

CDisplayEx

Open source is a kind of CDisplay rewritten from scratch (and made just open source). Search it to resemble as closely as possible CDisplay, even in the GUI.
And course, possible, like all programs in this category, view two facing pages, so as close as possible to reading a comic paper (you can switch from one page to another with a double click, right as CDisplay).

IcoFX

Editing program of high quality icons that define almost spectacular, considering that this is a free program. Not so much oriented towards the design of icons (this is well above the PixelToolBox) as to their editing and adding special effects (selectable between forty), drop shadow, blur, focus, lighten, darken etc..

You can also convert images into icons, or icons into images, or extract icons from executable files (.exe, .dll, .ocx), but the strength is the ability to change the icons themselves, with various effects including choose.

IcoFX

TKexe

It's a program that can create, with great simplicity, a personalized calendar. You can put the pictures one by one, choose to have a monthly calendar, an annual or one of the recurrences (there are only birthdays and anniversaries, or whatever we are going to select dates).

The user interface is unobtrusive, but not extraordinary. At the end of our creation can print the calendar directly, or save as image in BMP, JPG or PNG.
TKexe is full of options, but what is acceptable considering that it is entirely free.

JpegCrop

JpegCrop is a very simple program that allows us to cut (to run the crop) JPEG image without loss of quality.

If virtually all graphics programs allow you to cut at will Jpeg images, because very few can do so without any loss of quality, leaving intact the original quality.
As is well known, in fact, every time you edit a JPEG image and prompted a subsequent rescue with subsequent recompression: This goes to affect the image quality (which does not happen with non-lossy graphic formats, like BMP and PNG, for example).

So if we work on a JPEG image that has already been compressed to the maximum and that would not support a new recompression, or if you just want to take a portion of a JPEG image without losing in quality, here JpegCrop comes to our aid.

It's a very light program (just over 600kb), which requires no installation. Its use is very intuitive, so that any user can use it in a few seconds (because it's not that hard to cut and save a portion of the image...).

JpegCrop

Pictomio

It an image viewer who depends on the graphics, but it does so beautifully. In fact not even remotely supports all image formats in IrfanView and FastStone Image Viewer, and even has features to edit images in bulk (batch) of these two programs (and even of XnView, actually), and of Furthermore it has also considerable hardware needs ... However ... image display is absolutely spectacular, thanks to the 3D mode really well done (in some ways reminiscent of the best things of Visions). You should look at the pictures on your computer only to see it work ...

It also possible to rate the individual images and affix annotations (in order to catalog them better), and create slideshows quite spectacular.

Really nice (I still remember that the hardware requirements are significant, we need a recent PC otherwise it is useless).

GreenShot

Through GreenShot can capture screenshots of the desktop, neither more nor less than with other programs in this category.
The peculiarity of Greenshot, however, in addition to being open source (which never hurts) is that the editing of captured images is in fact possible, always within the program, insert text, arrows, ellipses, etc.. in its captured image, so you do not have to use a photo editing program later.

The size of the text, color and line width can be changed inside the program.
The simplicity and immediacy of the entire procedure GreenShot make further noteworthy.

GreenShot

Keywallet

Allows both to manage passwords that fill some of the modules that meet on the Internet (which are applied to the various information such as name, etc.).. Among the various functions, Keywallet also allows the automatic generation of passwords.

It a fairly good program, but we must consider that it is entirely in English and must be configured to work (that should lose a few minutes and understand what we're doing, otherwise uninstall it almost immediately). Overall it is interesting, however, is in a category where there are much more intuitive programs like KeePass, or more complete and powerful, like Cute Password Manager.

Cute Password Manager

It's a program that manages passwords, fill forms (modules) are online, the style of the famous AI Roboform. If you want to use for its most popular function, the automatic compilation of online forms, for example when you need to enter user IDs, passwords, emails, addresses, telephone number... in short, all those pages in which to register should fill a lot of data, we need two things: Maxthon or Internet Explorer browser (no Opera or Firefox, unfortunately), and a little patience to follow the tutorial to learn how to use it the first few times, since it is not easy or intuitive. Follow the tutorials that show it is absolutely necessary, otherwise you will not even install it.

It can also manage passwords, but this feature is KeePass which I believe is superior.

AI Roboform is less than easy to use (not that Roboform is easy), does not work with Firefox, however, has the advantage of being completely free (and incidentally, currently has competing in the function-free programs to fill the MODL online, at least to my knowledge).

Cute Password Manager

KeePass

It's a really good program for managing passwords. Open Source, save your passwords in an encrypted database, and especially does not need installation and can be exported everywhere (on floppy, cd, dvd, etc..) So that if one day we are going to use another computer, we all our password ready for use.

Unlike Roboform does not fill forms and passwords automatically on IE (or if it does, we must instruct us to do and it takes a few minutes to setup), its job is to save all your passwords in a secure environment (and where necessary to suggest new ones), ready to be used when needed, in this or other computers (as always in such cases, if you want the version that is installed, you must download the zip and the exe version).

Password Keeper

It's a good program for managing passwords, usable free even for commercial purposes. It very similar to KeePass (currently my favorite in this category), but, in my opinion-less Intute latter. Password Keeper can also create groups and categories, to group together similar passwords. It can also copy the values of a field (user ID or passwords, etc..), with a single mouse click, or write brief notes for each field.

The password database is protected by one master password (Master Password) is encrypted by a key encryption algorithms (AES, Twofish), user selectable.

It has many interesting features, but my preference in this field remains to KeePass.

Zone Alarm free

Zone Alarm free firewall was the first free mass, for which I must be given great credit, has been what has made everyone understand the importance of having a firewall at a time when most people had barely a virus. On hitfreeware.blogspot was the first safety program to be reported (long before the various Spybot, AntiVir, Ad-Aware, Comfortable, etc.).

During these years many things have happened that have missed in Zone Alarm that had the huge advantage over competitors, and that they did back in the bottom (as seen from the last comparison firewall): first the birth of fierce competitors, and the other gap to the paid version, which has increased a lot with the passage of time (and understandably, do not doubt it), since delay in certain security patches were applied in this free version (in some cases some holes were not corrected at all).

With some P2P programs, there are problems, if detected malfunction after installation (for example, the RAM that slowly goes to zero), he is probably the first indicia. Unfortunately a number of users reported difficulties with the latest versions.

DcFirewall

DcFirewall is an open source firewall that has two particularly interesting features: not installed, and is very light. This is one of the best, if not the best firewall out there. However ... have a very lightweight firewall may not be sufficient. DcFirewall is not very powerful, especially to filter outbound traffic, and many of vulnerability tests put him in great difficulty (not aware of anything, and the various malicious programs from your computer can get out whatever they want).

Last comparison hitfreeware.blogspot firewall is placed in the bottom (more or less above Ashampoo). I also like light programs, but subject however they are not too far from competing applications.

Therefore suggested to those seeking a lightweight firewall that filters traffic applications we have, but that does not go too deep. This is appropriate.

DcFirewall

Jetico Personal Firewall free

Simple and intuitive graphical interface, not excessive use of resources, good overall protection. Perhaps we must start to spend a few minutes to configure it more than others, and understand what they ask us to stop and allow, however, made me very positive impression. Are not necessary interventions strange, all you need is to answer YES or NO when prompted ... However ... if you do not know what had to respond and answer Yes to No, and vice versa, undergoes understandable problems.

To summarize, if you have no time or desire to spend to understand what you do (when you tell or not to block some traffic), it is better to directly use a less powerful firewall (like Zone Alarm or Kerio or maybe free Norton Internet Security) but it is less user intervention.

NOTE: Unfortunately after the release of version over payment has been blocked development of the free (which still remains more than valid and free to download). Jetico free slowly lose positions (as seen from the comparison firewall).

Ashampoo Firewall free

And free after registration (also free) on the Ashampoo site, the house that develops.

It a firewall easy to use, with few options and not much to configure.

If ever I make a comparison between the firewall lighter Ashampoo certainly finish in the top, since that occupies very little RAM (the average utilization is less than 10 MB of memory) and very few resources.

Unfortunately the same can not for the protection of outbound traffic, in reality, all the tests I did, a malicious program can simply bring out from our computer whatever he wants without Ashampoo Firewall free noticing (as seen by comparing firewall end of 2008). Other free firewalls, this offer much greater protection.

This does not mean however that the configurability of this firewall remains good, and that combined with its lightweight (and simplicity) it still makes an interesting product.

Ashampoo free firewall is compatible with Windows XP but not Vista.

Ashampoo Firewall free

Sunbelt Personal Firewall

Kerio free (the actual name is Sunbelt Personal Firewall) is a simple personal firewall, light, but several tests on the control of outbound traffic is not as effective as others, and especially there is a considerable distance from his own version payment (same as Zone Alarm). It easy to configure, and even this is much appreciated by users looking for something ready or almost everything.

The free version available for non-professional-after 30 days lost many security functions (which only remain in the fee), although less than Zone Alarm, as shown by tests on safety.

Overall, however, there are currently firewall free to consider other level (Comodo and PCTools Firewall, for example), as from my test is if anything better than the free version of Zone Alarm.

NOTE: The downloadable version is in charge, after 30 days turns into free, losing the extra features.

Sunbelt Personal Firewall

PrivateFirewall

It's a firewall between the lightest in circulation: it is not based on the recognition of digital signatures, as the behavior of programs. Requires, when you start a program for the first time, allowed his execution, if this program can be allowed access to the Internet (with more detailed configuration options).

It also possible, by configuring PrivateFirewall, IP block access to undesirable or even to websites that we want (simply by adding the site URL to the list of block).

Thus it would seem an excellent product, however, when you go to do some more targeted testing, you notice some flaws. There are in fact of the vulnerability tests that other firewall (like Comodo Personal Firewall, for example) easily overcome, but PrivateFirewall not (at least so far) able to overcome.

Its use is free for both private and commercial purposes.

Overall not a bad way firewall, but when we have free firewalls that are more powerful and complete (Comodo, Outpost Free, Online Armor).

PrivateFirewall

Webroot Desktop Firewall

It a firewall very interesting product from Webroot (SpySweeper the same company) on some of the things which shall be called for Comodo Personal Firewall: by default it just freezes (chances are that a malicious program is able to bring out the he wants the computer without the firewall problems), while if we change any parameter becomes the best firewall, able to filter out most of the threats (he has passed all the tests that I raised, as shown by comparison firewall).

Basically we have to choose whether to leave it in its default configuration, where Webroot Desktop Firewall does not block almost anything that comes out of this computer, or change any parameter, especially (Process Monitor, setting it to Medium), making the firewall much stronger, but also more irritating to the user (often asks what to do).

Among the positive notes, the ease with which you can block lists of IP or undesirable websites.
Among the less positive note, the fact that this firewall, by default, to let go 3 days out everything on your computer, considering now trust: if we have a trojan on your PC without our knowledge, him considered a trusted program. If a feature like that bothers you, you should deselect the Enable Training Mode.

Valid firewall, though, at least until now, my personal preference is to Comodo and Outpost.

Pc Tools Firewall Free

Good firewall, home (PCTools) which also produces the excellent (though heavy) antirootkit pay Spyware Doctor. Quite configurable, it is also light enough. It can overcome almost any vulnerability tests (after version 5, virtually without touching anything the original configuration), as shown by the good results last comparison firewall.

Like comfort, consider a free firewall respectable among the best around, and not too heavy for the system, at least until last.

Pc Tools Firewall Free

Online Armor Free

Besides being a good firewall, is very good for protection against rootkits and other hidden threats (among other winner of the last confrontation with Comodo firewall-to-hitfreeware.blogspot.com).
I consider him more a program than just a firewall, intrusion prevention, however, is very powerful in all respects.
More anti-intrusion section.

Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free

It always been one of the best firewalls in use, in both Windows 32-bit and 64 bit.
In the past, had existed for some time, a free version, but had short duration. Now we hope that finally the right time, because the free version, at least in the firewall and what interests us, is virtually identical to that charge. The paid version contains in fact more than one anti-spyware module and a particular defense from the Web, but the firewall itself and the proactive defense are the same of the shareware version.

One advantage of this firewall, among others, can be used either automatically (with a good protection), which in a user-configurable (with good protection), but also with automatic protection results are above the average of other firewalls.

WARNING: Outpost Firewall Free is free only for Windows Vista and XP (not free for Windows 7).

Agnitum Outpost Firewall Free

Kruptos 2

It was a free program that suddenly has become a fee. In any case, in the category of the free software to encrypt data remain valid alternative.

It's a program that allows encryption to encrypt files and folders, which is characterized mainly by two things: ease of use (just use the explorer to right click on any file or folder to be able to encrypt or decrypt) and the possibility (user selectable) to create self-extracting executable (.exe) that contain everything you want (documents, programs, or other), which can only be opened with the password, without the presence of Kruptos 2.

Similarly you can delete files from your hard disk in a safe, always using the right mouse button, so that it can not be recovered.
Is 256-bit encryption algorithm and used the old (1993), but still valid, Blowfish.

Kruptos 2 at the time given is compatible with Windows XP but not Vista or Windows 7.
I did some testing with Vista and sembrebbe least mostly work, but would not make sense to risk when there are other similar programs that are declared even Vista compatible and 7.

PixelCryptor

There are many programs to encrypt and protect files and folders, as shown in the class to encrypt data hitfreeware.blogspot.com. The vast majority of these programs using a password chosen by the user, without which the data can not be recovered.

PixelCryptor follows a different route: instead of a word, use it. To encrypt our documents, we show an image (jpg, bmp etc..) Through which our files will be protected, and thereafter to open it, we show the same password.

The idea on which PixelCryptor is that when you use a standard password, if this is simple can be discovered, and if it is complex can be forgotten (unless you write it somewhere, which is also Security worse), but if we use an image, maybe put in among thousands of other images more or less similar (a CD or DVD with photos from our digital camera, and this CD is placed in the middle of many other CD), will be quite difficult to discover (should an intruder try to open our files encrypted with all the images of all the CDs we have).

As an idea in itself is not bad, but the fact remains that the intruder, if he proves all the images one by one, sooner or later end up opening our store, we like it or not (something much more difficult when we have a memorized password).

PixelCryptor

Omziff

A little program very simple and lightweight (about 400k) to encrypt documents, which requires no installation, and then you can run from any support we want. Supports all major encryption algorithms, but with 128-bit keys (does not support 256-bit keys). Does not allow you to create self-extracting executable (Kruptos as, for example), which means that you must run to open encrypted documents above. It should also remember the algorithm which is able to encrypt the document to open it. There are programs in this area that are higher, but precisely its lightness makes it noteworthy.

Beyond that are a function to generate a password for the secure deletion of files from hard disk.

Gpg4win

Gpg4win is one of the best, if not the best free program for Windows (it is also open source and can also be used for commercial purposes) be able to encrypt their email. And the program that most closely recalls Pgp Pro has long become a fee.

To protect your emails using the classic system of the key pair, the public key (for distribution to those who will read our emails) and private key are created through the program and verify digital signatures.

It can use Gpg4win in two ways: either using the programs in Gpg4win, making it able to work with any email client (in this case it will do some cutting and pasting text from encrypted email client to WinPT, a Gpg4win application contained in the package) or via plugin (for example there is a plugin for Outlook), in which case we will do everything within the mail client itself.

Using Gpg4win is not difficult, however, if you are not familiar in this field (creation/use of public and private key, etc..), It is essential to read the program guide.

Gpg4win

AxCrypt

AxCrypt is an open source program that has a graphical interface like everyone else, but it works by clicking the right mouse button on any application or document you want to password protect. Through the Explorer menu, we can choose between various options crifratura.

It is not possible to encrypt multiple files. If we do, we must first create a zip archive, or any other medium, and then encrypt the file with AxCrypt: in this case, however, might as well create a self-extracting archive encrypted with a normal archiving program, with programs such as 7z, PeaZip, WinRAR, or similar.

It can also create self-extracting archives, so that if we send the encrypted file to a friend of ours, it will only need a password to open it (without AxCrypt on your computer).

The encryption algorithm is AES (considered one of the safest) to 128 bits (other programs, such as TrueCrypt, can also be encrypted to 256 bits).

As the program is certainly valid. My preference in this area is however more traditional programs, and with more features, such as TrueCrypt.

AxCrypt

DiskCryptor

DiskCryptor is a good open source program that enables us to encrypt the hard drive (whole or in part): so there can only be accessed by typing a password. You can encrypt individual partitions (including the boot partition C:), but also USB flash drives and CD/DVD (in this case will be encrypted ISO image, which must then be burned).

In other words you can encrypt an entire hard drive (or any external drive), and if you do not have the password will be impossible to gain access to part of it in any way.

Encryption algorithms to choose from are now considered among the safest, namely AES, Twofish, Serpent.

The efficiency and speed DiskCryptor are excellent.
A powerful processor is not essential, but it is very pleasing, not to suffer delays in operations with the hard disk. Since that henceforth any data that is read or written to the Hard Disk will be encrypted, the processor will be constantly called into question. This will cause a slight slowdown more or less proportional to the power of your CPU.

If you want to know how your computer slows down, try a couple of tests with SSD Benchmark CristDiskMark or AS before and after you encrypt a partition encrypted: you will find that there will be some slowdown, especially if your processor is not last generation.

The usefulness of this program becomes evident especially for notebook computers: while the laptop is lost (or stolen), it will be impossible to access our data without the password.

TrueCrypt, free program to reference the class, certainly has some more features (including the ability to hide an encrypted partition within a normal); DiskCryptor, however, defends himself very well.

IMPORTANT: This is a type of program that needs to be done carefully, and it is absolutely unsuitable for an inexperienced user. In fact, if by chance one day install an application that creates conflicts of any kind and Windows no longer able to boot, or if the hard drive begins to malfunction, or if it should happen that something unexpected will prevent DiskCryptor leaving (you corrupts the boot partition), then it can become difficult-sometimes impossible-to access our data (or even simply recover).

ClipSecure

It's a very simple program to send encrypted email program that does not require installation. All you need is a password for the sender and one for the receiver. Through the inclusion of two passwords (always the first one who sends and who receives after that) you can view text correctly (also works with a unique password, of course). Any odd man, who does not know the password for both users, unable to decipher the message. ClipSecure works well and is very fast (supports all major encryption algorithms, 256-bit and beyond). Another point: Clipsecure needs no installation.

The use of the program is simple enough, but sometimes it's good for first read the guide (in English), otherwise you might not get anything. If you are looking for a program that encrypts emails with a classic pair of keys (public and private), then I suggest the valuable Gpg4win (but is a bit more complex ClipSecure).

LockNote

LockNote can encrypt the text (including passwords, etc..), Creating a self-extracting executable in a completely automatic. Requires no installation, and is so simple to use that it is impossible to get confused: Just try it for a few moments to understand the effectiveness and immediacy. Among other things, encrypts with 256 bit AES algorithm.

NOTE TO ALL:
When I consider freeware (for this I gave him the edge above green, and blue as the open source), because the current version 1.0.4 is not available the source code (available instead to 1.0.3). This for other programs would make little difference, but instead it can do for data encryption programs (in the sense that an experienced user, looking at the code, would feel safer).

LockNote

TrueCrypt

At this time the program is open source reference for encryption and protection of personal data. Allows you to encrypt files, folders and entire partitions with the most famous 256-bit encryption algorithms (AES, Twofish, Serpent), also using 2 of these algorithms simultaneously. The program is able to create a hidden encrypted volume within another encrypted volume, so as to leave a safe area invisible even if we are forced to reveal the password (this feature is only for experienced users, since Because if you are able you may lose all data in the hidden volume).

The volume to be encrypted may want to have any extension (.txt, .rar, .zip, .iso, .Mp3, .jpg, etc.., Or any extension): TrueCrypt-only and with the right password, will be able to open it. Nor is it possible to establish that we have encrypted the file has been encrypted with TreuCrypt (this is a further step towards the confidentiality).

Truecrypt does not need to install: you can run from any device to open and use-for example-some encrypted volume within the disk drive.
For the avoidance of doubt, remember that encrypt a partition can have devastating effects if you do not understand what you do, before combining irreparable damage, it should think very carefully before acting.

A-Squared free

Added a little surprise in comparison to anti-spyware a few years ago, and although at that time I had specific expectations on him, he is well behaved, resulting in head-to-free programs (like Ad-Aware is part freeware and partly shareware, and similarly, pay only the part that concerns the real-time protection).

Many competitors have less options for configuration, but for some can be an advantage, since this results in a greater ease of use.

Currently remains at very good (remember that, compared to competing applications, tends to indicate a greater number of programs that he considers doubtful, and it is good to avoid removing what signals without understanding what you are doing).

VERY IMPORTANT: A-squared Free is not free, even partially. Now is a program fee in effect, called Emisoft Anti-Malware. Now the free version is called Emisoft Emergency Kit

A-Squared free

Spyware Blaster

It'a particular anti-spyware, which does not deal to scan and remove spyware on your computer, but tries to prevent that it can enter, closing some of the most popular Web browser functionality (and more targeted malware and spyware) Internet Explorer.

To do this, some features are disabled in Internet Explorer (from ActiveX controls) is inhibited access to a large number of sites considered hazardous, and is deleted several cookies on your computer (cookies are text that Our browser is exchanged with the server you are accessing, usually to keep track of our preferences, for example when we shop at an online store allows us to fill the cart, etc.)..

The drawback is simple: some sites (not just 'bad', but also sites 'good' that require special functionality to Explorer) will no longer be accessible. The user-especially if inexperienced-will seek to enter or browse them, but we do not succeed, being disabled components that maybe the site requires.

Overall, Spyware Blaster can be considered a protection more useful for those who want additional protection, although I'm not a big supporter of this type of protection, for the reasons listed above.

Among the positive notes, the fact that Spyware Blaster is entirely free.

Emisoft Emergency Kit

It's the program Emisoft which in a sense replaced the valuable A-Squared free, become subject to charges. Even the interface is virtually identical to that of A-Squared Free.

Emisoft Emergency Kit is portable application (requires no installation) that allows you to find and remove malware and spyware from your computer. It can run a quick scan or a smart scan, where the program will check only the critical areas of the operating system, or even a full scan, where each file is analyzed.
The download is small (100 MB), but the ability to scan and removal are among the best ever (just like A-Squared Free).

Spamfighter Standard

SPAMfighter Standard is a free version of an anti-spam charge, called Spamfighter Pro version you download is a Pro, which comes standard (free) after 30 days, losing some functionality (as described below). On first access to work, you must enter your email address and password at will.

In the free version you can not filter languages (to avoid direct all messages in languages unknown to us) is allowed only personal use, and there is a bit of advertising, advertising a line of type at the bottom every email you send, other than that, is the same as shareware.

Compared to other anti-spam programs, you already have an extensive database of spammer IP, so as to be immediately functional. Even with the passage of time, Spamfighter try to be as a program that does everything automatically.

Unfortunately not a big supporter of the programs (or filters) spam, perhaps because I've never found one I liked 100% apart from this, SPAMfighter Standard is a good anti-spam, the level of the best, set in the category of anti-spam programs.

Spamihilator

One of the best anti-spam programs, if not the best.

It works with virtually all email clients, for the most is the automatic configuration, while others (such as Foxmail), simply change a few parameters manually (it takes around 5 seconds).

Spamihilator has a considerable number of spam filters built, plus excellent training arena, the ability to learn from us which messages are 'good' and which aspects of spam.

Important: The program is updated frequently, however, the thing that really counts-its filters and plugins are frequently updated, so if you have problems with spam acknowledged evil or too many false detections, you should activate a different filter or higher

Returnil Virtual System Personal

Returnil Virtual System free also works with a principle more or less similar to the sandbox: create a virtual copy of the operating system the computer's RAM, to run in it any change, all without any user intervention (among other things, until Returnil is active, the computer becomes very fast, thanks to the fact that the system is copied into RAM).

In other words we can install any program (that does not require restarting the computer) with VS Returnil active, test, experiment or us everything we want, and will restart as before installing.

The free version does not save anything on C: partition while Returnil is active (you can save instead on other partitions or external devices), if we are to save the C: partition we have to buy the paid version (creates virtual drive hard disk, which is always active, and on which we can write the data).

While we focus, we can make any changes to the system we want (install programs, tests, etc..), When instead we want to eliminate these changes, we restart the computer (not just Returnil).
