SpyBot Search and Destroy (Antispyware)

A good freeware program to remove spyware from your PC. Maybe you did not know, but very often when installing a freeware or shareware (sometimes commercial), there are also installed satellite programs, but you can not uninstall. These little programs spy on you, send when you are connected to the Internet-your-information (usually about your surfing habits, etc..) To their customers. (What is spyware?)

In my case, the first launch, a few years ago, Ad-Aware (the program I used SpyBot before) eliminated 81 spyware programs on my PC (and I do not think I have none!).

The program is 100% free. Remember to update it every now and then, because new spyware is constantly created. To do this, simply click on the update section in the program.

Unfortunately, time has passed, and SpyBot has lost a bit of the great effectiveness of past years. Discrete results in comparison antispyware 2009.

Despite everything, still has the merit of being one of the last antyspyware remained entirely free, which does not require the purchase of some version higher fee.

AIMP (Better audio player)

Right now I consider him the best player for audio tracks (mp3, wma, ogg, etc.). It combines the best features of WinAmp and Foobar 2000. It's simple and lightweight with excellent graphics and interface natively supports the vast majority of audio formats, including playlists (m3u, etc..), And cue files with single track.

AIMP is also portable: Upon installation you can choose whether to install it regularly, or just portable version, so you can move all-preferences-where we want (on USB sticks, etc..).

Antivir (Free Antivirus)

Antivir is what I consider today the best free antivirus around. And consistently result ranks high in all my tests, both in recognition of those viruses that speed. It easy to configure, the only thing to do is check the menu to schedule automatic updates are enabled.

Among its most interesting qualities, being lighter (takes few resources), updated frequently with good and able to recognize an impressive number of viruses. Even comparing it with the fee antivirus, Antivir is always the best (however more than most of those who pay). A choice without doubt recommended.

Worthy placement in comparison to October 2004 compared with Antivirus fee, especially with older viruses, and even better placement in the confrontation of 2006, compared to the 2009 virus. The speed is good, as in version 7 (when I finally become automatic updates) is no longer the lightning Antivirus Version precenti, which touched NOD32.

Foxmail (Email), replace Outlook Express

One of the things that seem less useful to someone who uses the Internet is just another email program. There have Outlook Express which is free and does everything you need... Over-time and with increasing experience and anger-but we understand that this is not always gold which at first sight seems likely. In fact one day we take a computer virus, or our hard drive begins to break or accidentally install a program that makes it impossible to start Windows, or have some similar problem too serious, so here we are faced with our problems. Recover our email settings, emails and more (and later restore) becomes a nightmare.

Here so that we can understand why many insist on using Foxmail (initially not understood them). But what is special about this program? Essentially one thing (aside from the simplicity, lightness, ability to handle multiple accounts easily, a spam filter built and easily configurable, and more, not least the fact that it is free) is entirely in a folder. We move the folder where we want, and everything will be included in that folder: preferences, multiple accounts, all emails sent and received, the settings of the various providers we use to receive mail and send... practically everything is in one folder, which can safely be copied to another hard disk or CD, or on a USB stick, so you carry it around with us.

Foxmail launching from that folder, everything will work perfectly, and we can also send and receive emails without any problem. So if we go traveling, or just keep a copy for the purpose of the reserve, we put our Foxmail folder to a CD or a USB pen drive and all our emails will always be with us.

FastStone Image Viewer (View pictures and photographs)

Another great program to view images. Unfortunately, there are categories where the good free programs are virtually absent and others, like this display of images, where we even have three free programs at the highest level.

It can also add any text or watermarks to images, and apply other small effects. The image processing block (batch) is good, perhaps not even in XnView, but still more than valid. The stability is excellent, very rarely is a program that crashes, even when under pressure.

Watching carefully, I notice that you are inspired directly to the functions and features of Irfanview trying to improve them. The only thing that remains Irfanview is probably higher as many formats supported (directly or through plugins).

FastStone Image Viewer

Codec Installer

Analyze an audio track or movie, and installs the missing codecs on your system. If we have an audio or video that we are not able to reproduce, Codec Installer tries to solve the problem, making only download what we need for that audio or video files.

It's strength being able to download and install only the codecs that we need to avoid going to create unnecessary conflicts software.

DVD Remake, Modify a DVD without recoding

Very easy to use, almost elementary. Allows you to run a series of changes to the DVD in our possession, the clear language and menus, to remove any credits and commercial logos, in various ways to modify menus (removing parts that do not concern us), all automatically and with great ease.

You can even combine 2 DVD, choosing the parts to keep each of them. After all our work, does not serve reauthoring, the DVD resulting from our changes will be written directly, without any new code (with consequent loss of quality).

VideoRedo Plus, change the VOB and MPEG files

With VideoReDo Plus you can cut and edit VOB or MPEG2 files, without having to rerun a video encoding at the end of operations.

Who has a DVD recorder, I can understand the usefulness for a while with this program you can easily cut advertising from things that have been recorded (there is also a feature that helps to do it automatically, locate the points which the program believes there may be an advertisement).

Very easy to use, is the best program I know of this kind. There are entirely free programs that can change the VOB, as Vob Blanker mpeg2cut and 2, however, VideoReDo Plus is the easiest of all to use, and free until the competitors will not improve from this point of view (especially Vob Blanker, because already mpeg2cut 2 is more intuitive), there will remain a rung below.

Virtual Dub

It's the most popular open source program can split and combine video clips, and more. By Virtual Dub were learned many other programs, including VDM (which in years past I used to almost all video guides hitfreeware.com).

The characteristics are similar to those of VDM, the major difference that Virtual Dub is still constantly updated.

Virtual Dub

VobBlanker, change the VOB

Vob Blanker is one of very few open source programs that can change the VOB. Why unable to work, you need the DVD is decrypted on the hard drive in File mode: then need to load the VIDEO_TS.IFO file that was extracted along with the VOB from the DVD.

No installation required, and this is a plus because you can try without conflicting with other programs that may be installed.

It can produce substantial results with VOB: can be cut (for example, can be divided into two DVD 9, or you can possibly remove the advertising), you may exclude certain audio tracks, you can change the menu (for example by changing those animated static to save space). You can even add new menus, and other features of the genre.

Unfortunately all this is a major obstacle: VobBlanker is anything but an intuitive program. If you think you can do something without reading any guide (the English-speaking guide is on the website indicated below), you astray. An experienced user may well be able to make good use of this program with some effort (and reading the guide). A novice user in terms of video editing, however, difficult to go far, unless you spend considerable time and effort using this program.

Unfortunately, if you want to change any of the VOB, for example to cut advertising, software fee as VideoReDo Plus is very (but very) simple.

Pinnacle VideoSpin, a free program to edit video

The Pinnacle is a company most famous, if not the most famous ever for the production of TV capture cards for PC, TV cards, etc.. It also famous for the development of some fairly simple programs (as opposed to professional such as Adobe Premiere, which are much more complex) assembly-or video-editing, which are still popular (such as Pinnacle Studio Plus 11).

When you install and test VideoSpin (which is not particularly light, more than 150 MB), you immediately think of facing the best free program for video editing. Simple, but equally powerful enough to run small video editing, without having to read a line of instructions (if you have an idea of how the programs in this category).

But ... observing deeper you find something soon: it is true that VideoSpin is free, however some of the codec used by this program (the most common, as mpeg2 MPEG4/DivX and Dolby Digital Audio) is opening and saving are payment and expire after 15 days. Then you are invited to buy them, otherwise it is impossible to use formats.
We notice so that, for many uses, VideoSpin unfortunately is not free.

However, it remains free for other formats, for example, is able to create videos directly to YouTube or Flash (even though he is here to choose all the parameters that can not be changed), or MPEG-1 or Windows Average: all this makes it more interesting anyway.

MPEG Streamclip, a free program to edit video

It's a program that can perform many functions, and perform well. It can convert between various video formats, with full support MPEG1-2, can work directly on the DVD VOB, both to cut that to unite them without loss of quality, you can find and fix problems with synchronous audio, useful for example in recorded videos that sometimes there are problems in synchronous VOB (for example, you can remove the advertising maintaining synchronous) or to separate the audio from the video that supports all formats (using the Demux).

It's a quality program, but requires a bit attention so that it works better, particularly if we understand what they are all available. For example, among the most interesting features, there is a Trim function that allows you to work in detail on part of the video we've selected.

Unfortunately, MPEG Streamclip is a bit boring with codecs. To operate it properly, you must install QuickTime Alternative 1.81 (click here to download just this version, otherwise there may be problems with mpeg-2), if we want to work on divx, must also install the 3ivx codec (downloadable from here).
Windows Media Player must be updated at least version 10 (or later).

If you plan to use MPEG Streamclip with satellite records, there is also a special menu for the receiver DreamBox.

MKV Extract Gui

The format/MKV video container, which in recent times is becoming increasingly common, has several advantages over AVI format, but sometimes it can be done with it for simple tasks, since not many programs are able to support it (especially if the audio is in AAC format and video X264).

For example, if we want to separate all the tracks (audio, video and subtitles), we could use the blueprint for the MKV, MKV Toolnix, however. There is another program that can do this with even greater simplicity: MKV Extract GUI (among other things is also open source).

Just run it, load any MKV file and in a moment we can extract all the tracks you want by simply pressing a button.

MKV Extract GUI requires no installation.

IFOedit (Change DVD)

It's a great program that allows you to make profound changes in DVDs, going to act on the IFO file. It the first great free program in the industry, and today its power is enormous. If you learn to master, you can do almost anything.

The limit is another: Ifo Edit is quite difficult to understand, and even more difficult to use. It is not a program that does all those he (unlike DVD Remake or VideoReDo, for example) but need to know who controls what he does (and this affects a bit on my evaluation). If you pass this hurdle, then IfoEdit reveals a program of great power.

IFOedit

Subtitle Workshop (Subtitles - divx)

With Subtitle Workshop you can perform various operations on subtitles (in a separate file, for example .srt) including changes in size, font, color, style, etc.. But also more complex things, including editing text or change the sync with the video. All very similar to SubMagic, reported in the category subtitles, graphical user interface is unobtrusive, though not as beautiful and colorful SubMagic.

The things you can do are endless, both search and replace text, that timing, that the changing of the subtitles themselves.

Supports 56 different subtitle formats, and is very easy to convert from one format to another. Overall a valuable program.

Sub2Divx (Subtitles - divx)

It's a program that works with the same principle of AviaddXSubs, namely that allows us to unify into a single video file .avi files with corresponding subtitles in .srt (the new file will have extension .divx). This is to make life easier for many readers divx board, who have problems to see if the subtitles are in a separate file, but not if they are integrated into divx (which may be shown or hidden by pressing the corresponding key divx player on the remote desktop).

It works well, though my preference for now is the already mentioned AviaddXSubs, which is a bit faster and gave some problems in less compatibility with certain players (again, it's best to try in person). You can add up to 8 different files .srt in the same video.

Sub2Divx

AviaddXsubs (Embed subtitles in a divx)

It's a wonderful program that allows you to take a divx video, its corresponding subtitle file (.srt) and merge them together into a single file .divx or .avi. This is to see the whole table with a normal player, so just by having a single file (very convenient, especially for readers who have problems with .srt). You can decide size, name and position of sottotoli. The video is not recompressed, therefore there is no loss of quality.

It easy to use even for users who know nothing or almost divx (just rename the same way that video and subtitles, for example video .avi and video .srt). AviaddXSubs requires no installation.

IMPORTANT: This mode is much better for readers than for desktop media players pc, and is not guaranteed to work on any player (the best thing is to try).

DVDAuthorGUI, create a basic dvd

This free program is entering a particular category (that of DVD authoring), which are competitors costing several hundred dollars.

Making it possible to create DVDs complete with menus (menu is static and moving), subtitles, audio tracks, simply by starting a separate file (one or more video files, one or more audio, subtitles, images, etc..).

DVD creation is not something easy, but with a little commitment are unable to do a good job (read the installation guide in English is a must if you are not familiar with the creation of the DVD, otherwise you will go far: indeed, it manages to combine very little...)

The programs pay more noble (like DVDit, for example) certainly have more options (although the initial difficulty level is also higher), however dvdauthor can achieve exactly what it promises.

DVDAuthorGUI

EAC (Exact Audio Copy)

What to say? EAC, considered the program to extract audio tracks from CDs with absolute quality. Many other programs do a great job (like those on this page), but EAC does it perfectly, allowing verification of the extraction end of the same quality than the original.

For those who consider themselves addicts audio quality is an obvious choice, although it is harder to configure than the other (you lose a bit minutes, while others work immediately). On hitfreeware.com is a guide to EAC and its configuration.

LamedropXPd (Audio conversion)

And one of the most light and simple to convert from WAV format to the now ubiquitous MP3. It occupies only 300 kb and requires no installation. When started, simply drag the small interface that opens our WAV audio files and automatically start the conversion to MP3.

Despite being so small and light, LamedropXPd remains very configurable, so you can choose the bit rate of conversion, if the bitrate must be constant (for a more compatible) or variable (for better quality) if the final quality must be high (High) price of a higher conversion time, you can set the folder to save the resulting mp3 files, and so on.

Overall nice and light application that works just fine.

LamedropXPd

Cinecode

It an open source program that converts any video format to Flash (.flv). The use is the most simple imaginable: just drag the video to convert the window Cinecode, and the program will do all alone, without prompting the user.

This lack of options, it may be convenient for a novice user (even the most inexperienced user can create a flash video in seconds), is certainly not appreciated by more experienced users. In fact there is the possibility to change any parameters. CineCode so, fully automatic, give or take.

But if we simply want to convert a flash video (.FLV) without thinking of anything, we are absolutely satisfied.

Free Video Converter by Extensoft (Conversion and video editing)

For years we had a free program that converts between video formats at this time, however, the number of free programs that can perform this conversion is significant, as shown by the category of video conversion programs on the Super, Koyotesoft Video Converter, FormatFactory, MediaCoder, Xvid4PSP, etc.., (again without mentioning the specific programs to convert divx to DVD and DVD to Divx).

Free Video Converter thus seeks to add something new than the competition: not only does the conversion between formats (the operation to select an output video format that has not already been preset is still a bit driver), but adds the possibility to make small edits between different video clips (which we can then save to the desired format) a bit as Windows Movie Maker but with more chance on the final conversion (for example, is possible to export the video in a format directly compatible with iPod, iPhone and some other default profile).

The ability assembly/editing are very small (especially if we look at some video editing software fee), but currently, Free Video Converter is one of the few free programs to write such a possibility.

Overall an interesting program if we need to make small video montages. If you want to do a simple conversion, then these programs are more immediate (and especially with a much greater number of preset output profiles).

Unfortunately, in some cases I have had problems in synchronous audio-video.

Video DVD Maker free (Converts to DVD)

It's a very good program that lets you create DVDs from diverse sources, including digital camcorders, TV capture cards, various video formats (avi, divx, xvid, mpg, mov, wmv, etc..), The all with great ease. After conversion, you can burn directly resulting DVD.

There is also a paid version, called Video DVD Maker Pro, with a few more features (including especially that requires no recoding in case of video in MPEG format and the ability to create slideshows or galleries-of-pictures), but this is free just fine for most uses.

Video DVD Maker free

Winavi, create a DVD from a DivX

Extreme simplicity and speed. Give it a divx-and-if you have a fast processor in less than 40 minutes will convert it into a DVD (or VCD or SVCD, at our option), complete with chapters created automatically.

It also converts many other formats, including WMV, RM, ASF, MOV, in addition to the aforementioned DivX, XviD and MPEG-1/2.

The quality of results is decent given the high-speed call it acceptable. With some divx not perfectly created can have problems. The audio quality is rather good, and if the departure had Divx AC3, AC3 audio will be left.

Anyway can improve from version to version, and for lovers of everything at once is a good choice (or even if you have a processor a few years ago, and will not buy a new one, or wait hours for the conversion).

KoyoteSoft Video converter

It a free program that converts between video formats (supported formats are numerous: Avi, MKV, FLV, WMV, MPG, VOB, VCD, etc.). Parameters are preset and ready for most of the units audio/video popular, such as iPod, iPhone, Xbox, PS2 and PS3, Apple TV, etc..

The options available in the video format you want to convert are few, but this allows KoyoteSoft Video converter to be simple to use. The quality of the final conversion, however, is not very high.

The GUI is very nice and easy to understand.

Among the more interesting notes, the possibility to convert only part of the video (easily selectable) and not the whole entire video. It also possible to extract only the audio formats supported by simply using the 'audio only', and automatically convert the format chosen by us (mp3, aac, mp2, wma).

Unfortunately, the conversion is not always perfect, sometimes I found small errors (especially with regard to a perfect compatibility). In other cases, I had problems after the conversion, audio-video sync.

DVD Video Soft Free studio (video and audio converter)

Free Studio is a complete package (including a score of programs) that can perform conversions between audio and video formats, but also download and send video from YouTube, decrypt the hard disk and burn DVDs (but not reduced from a DVD9 DVD5), rip and burn audio CDs, split and combine video clips, and more.

Free Studio can be downloaded and installed on a single block, or you can download and install programs that each time we need.

My opinion remains the same, compared to all programs including: for each of the programs included in the package, there is one (or more) that is specific for the same things better.

Free study may be helpful for someone who is inexperienced, and will not be losing too much time to learn new programs (maybe looking in the most appropriate category on hitfreeware): in this case, you can download all in one package becomes certainly useful .

DVD Video Soft Free studio

Any Video Converter (Convert video and audio formats)

Any Video Converter (the Free Video Converter) is another program that allows us to convert a video in various formats. Input formats are supported such as AVI, FLV, MOV, MP4, MOV, M2TS, MTS, RM, RMVB, QT, WMV, and many formats/outgoing containers, including AVI, WMV, MOV, MP4, MKV, SWF, FLV.

Among the useful features, the possibility of cutting a part of the video or audio (or convert only selected trait), the possibility of combining different videos, and batch function to automatically convert multiple movies.

You can easily change the codec output, size, bitrate, framerate (24, 25 fps, 23.976, etc.). The interface is clear and colorful. Conversion quality good enough (but no double pass, for example).

It seems a good program, however, when there is a complex conversion (for example a video MKV with x264 video and AAC audio), it should fail where fail most of its competitors: the audio video sync.

This means that does not depart from the average of competition, and be unable to compete with the best. Hopefully in the future make progress from this point of view.

Super (Converter video and audio)

It's a program totally free video converter, which supports an incredible amount of audio and video formats, and can convert between them with ease: 3GP/3G2 (Nokia, Siemens, Sony, Ericsson) asf, avi (DivX, H263, H263+, H264, XviD, MPEG4), dat, fli, flc, flv (used in Flash), mkv, mpg (Mpeg I, Mpeg II), mov (H263, H263+, H264, MPEG4), mp4 (H263, H263+, H264, MPEG4), ogg, qt, rm, ram, rmvb, str (Play Station), swf (Flash), ts (HDTV), viv, vob, wmv. Similarly, many audio formats are supported (ac3, amr, mp2, mp3, mp4, mpc, ogg, ra, wav, wma).

It can also convert between avi video, for example, but created with different codecs (for example, created a video with H.264 and AAC can be converted into a normal divx with mp3 audio, executable in any reader board, or vice versa).

The graphical interface has been that a few years ago, and is not the best (to say the least).

Super was the first program to allow free conversion video/audio between many formats. Today is a good program (especially because it still supports many formats), but suffers a little bit of competition, mainly because of the graphical interface which, as mentioned, is not the best.

Sometimes there can be problems after the conversion, synchronization between audio and video (especially if you convert a 720p or 1080p MKV to AVI), but I have not encountered problems with Xvid4PSP.

NOTE: The download link is a bit hidden around the site, you need to look carefully.

Unfortunately, though years ago it was the best program category, has recently lost several points.

Format Factory file format converter (Convert video and audio formats)

Recently we see more and more programs that can convert between video and audio formats. It true that the vast majority of these programs seek only to convert many formats as possible, without looking on the quality (and often compatibility), but it is also true that most users search only a program able to convert a couple of clicks from one format to another and will not be losing too much time trying to read guides or between different configurations.

Format Factory is thus able to satisfy this huge range of users, since it is easy to use, and supports multiple formats it can convert to avi, wmv, flv, mp4, etc.. And also to all audio formats The most common, such as mp3, wma, ogg, wav, aac.
It can also directly convert a DVD into a DivX with quality results is certainly not comparable to specific programs as AutoMKV, but if only a few clicks.

On hitfreeware.com is also a guide to Format Factory to see the videos on your mobile.

Overall it is not appropriate for those seeking more specific programs, but it is valid to make a conversion without having to commit too.

Xvid4PSP, Convert between video formats

Come among the last in order of time, Xvid4PSP immediately became one of the best free programs to convert various video formats, including formats for portable players. Indeed it can convert videos directly to PSP, iPod, iPhone, Xbox and other platforms (from PCs, of course).

Formats that are accepted into several, from the classic DVD RAM, DivX/Xvid, MKV, OGM, MOV, QT, and many others.

The results are among the best for a program of this kind (generic and not specific multiformat conversion for converting between two formats). The GUI is very nice.
With Windows Vista you may need to start it as Administrator.

XMedia Recode, Convert media files to portable devices

Xmedia Recode is a video conversion program available in portable version has many preset profiles are available for units of various kinds (for example, Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Apple iPhone and iPod, Blackberry, Motorola, Nokia, etc.), can cut video (as well as convert them), but also tries to keep sync between audio and video when you make a conversion.

Allows both to convert DVD to various formats (all those supported, which are indeed many), which convert videos.

Unlike many similar programs, also XMedia Recode also allows you to configure the video and audio quality of conversion: for example you can change the bitrate, 2 pass, choose whether to run for a higher quality, turn the volume up / normalized as a percentage defined user and more.
This is certainly a cut above the competition.

Overall I consider when one of the best programs in the industry, and the fact that there is in portable version makes it even more interesting.

XMedia Recode

FAVC, Convert Divx to DVD

FavCH is another good program to convert divx (or xvid) to DVD, using a series of free programs with an understandable interface.

It easy to use, since everything is automatically created (including the start menu, if you put more songs on the same DVD).

The results are very good video, I'd say almost on the level of DVDForger.
In theory, the AC3 audio should not be touched, if present in divx departure. In reality, however, I realized that if the departure is AC3 6-channel audio in this DVD will not be 6-channel, but 2 (by selecting the option "Retain if present"). Also, do not support audio multitrack (if a video has two sound tracks, will be retained only the first).

DVDForger than the program that is more like FavCH tend to prefer the former, since, by a slightly greater initial effort, you can get results (slightly) better. FavCH is more immediate and automatic, I would say more intuitive, at least for the first few times you use it.

D2MP (Convert Divx to DVD)

D2MP is a free very interesting, as can be seen from the comparison programs divx to DVD.

The graphical interface is not the best (that of the TheFilmMachine is much higher, for example), does not have a human name, at first glance seems a bad copy of other programs in the category, there is only one encryption algorithm in mpeg2 ( QuEnc) 3-4 against the other. However ... can convert DVD in a perfect way, even if several completely different video (which unfortunately Avi2DVD and The FilmMachine not do). The results are among the best, but especially the processing times are relatively low. Nor wrong almost never synchronized audio with video.

If you need to convert more than one DVD divx, D2MP is the program for you. If you convert a single divx (perhaps divided into several times) on DVD and have no problems waiting (or maybe you have a dual core processor), then with The FilmMachine Avi2DVD and you get a slightly better video quality.

For the avoidance of doubt, remember that D2MP is entirely free. I wrote a guide for d2mp.

D2MP

TheFilmMachine, (Convert Divx to DVD)

Totally free program that allows you to easily convert the extreme divx to DVD, with excellent graphical interface.

Operation is very simple (just do a few clicks). The algorithms used for encoding conversion to DVD is freeware and very good quality (HCenc and Quench), at least for the results, but not so with regard to speed (you can not have everything).

Basically do a great job, but the conversion time is on average a few hours, 3-4 times higher WinAVI (these settings at maximum speed, or more than 3-4 times ...). Who looks for the video quality will be especially pleased, as today there are programs like DVDForger that, both in video quality that the ability to put different titles on the same DVD-is the higher. On hitfreeware.com is also a guide for TheFilmMachine.

Vso ConvertXtoDVD, Converting a Divx to DVD (or VCD or SVCD)

And one of the best programs to convert divx to DVD. Easy to use, good quality final result. There are a number of options all very intuitive, including the ability to customize the Start menu (in addition to the usual type to choose how many languages, any subtitles, etc...) You can create DVDs of a total duration up to 4 hours. Good speed, though not on the level WinAVI (at medium quality, speed is almost double compared to Avi2DVD).

It's definitely for everyone, and probably the best choice among the paid programs that perform this type of work (WinAVI is faster, but the results are below). If divx particularly difficult, for example due to the use of strange codecs, VSO ConvertXtoDVD may have difficulty in this case the free Avi2DVD is higher, as is often able to resolve situations with all other programs seemed desperate. Comparing DivX-DVD conversion programs, was in the best compromise between speed and quality.

Avi2DVD, Converting a Divx to DVD (or VCD or SVCD)

Create DVDs with ease (and also VCD and SVCD) starting from divx or xvid with extension AVI, OGM, MKV (subtitles included). Use of valid mpeg2 encoder free (plus the ability to choose the good and expensive CCE), QuEnc, FreeEnc, NuEnc, HC. The speed of these encoders is equal to that of WinAVI, but the results are very good. FreeEnc for example, when used in a single-pass gives acceptable results, and the conversion speed is practically in real time with a 3 GHz processor (a 100-minute video will be converted into 100 minutes). If you want superior results, then just choose QuEnc HCenc or above and you will be satisfied (just wait a little more than twice).

Can also convert DVD videos in less common formats, such as x264 with AAC audio (and perfectly synchronize subtitles), provided these videos you can see on our PCs.

If the video is divided into 2 halves, the DVD will be met automatically. The audio is excellent. If there are multiple audio tracks DivX for different languages on the DVD there are multiple audio tracks. If the sound is starting 6-channel, 6 channel will (something that competing programs do not usually do). I also wrote a simple guide to convert DivX to DVD Avi2DVD.

Unfortunately does not allow the inclusion of videos of different types in the same DVD.

NOTE: In case of persistent problems with the conversion, I suggest using DVDFlick. The result will be of inferior quality, but it is very difficult DvdFlick fail.

DVDForger, Converting a Divx to DVD (or VCD or SVCD)

DVDForger has more or less the same characteristics of other programs in this category, especially D2MP: makes it possible to create a DVD converting multiple video, all via an initial menu (the start of the DVD we can choose which title display menu).

Top is not easy to understand, especially if we want to do more complex things (just add many titles with a home menu, for example in the case of episodes of a TV series), but also reading the guide (in English), well soon realizes that the operations do not have so many more.

The characteristic that distinguishes it from other programs to convert divx-dvd is essentially one: the video quality. Indeed, although there are only a video algorithm (HCEnc because QuEnc remained at an experimental stage), this is preset with the optimal parameters, so that the conversion results are the best video I've seen between the free software industry.

Unfortunately we can not say the same for audio (and here lies the true limit DVDForger) any audio format to have the video start, the program always converts AC3 to two channels (extremely annoying). If we have a video with AC3 6 channel, will still be converted to AC3 to two channels, with loss of quality.
Also, if the video is a second audio track, it must first be separated from the video through an external program (such as VDM or Avidemux) and then reloaded on DVD Forger (what really uncomfortable).

Overall error (with very high video quality and is also open source), but with limitations on audio.

NOTE: Since this program is a bit more complex than others to use, you should look at driving conversion divx-dvd with this on DVDForger hitfreeware.com.

FairUse (Conversion DVD to Divx)

FairUse is another program to convert DVD to Divx, easy to use and with good results. It free to convert DVD to a CD (max 700 MB), but if you want to create divx 2-CD must register (registration is 10 euros).

To improve results, can manually run the crop (cutting the black bars) and set the start point of the credits, so as to diminish the quality of the latter to the benefit of the rest of the film.

It very intuitive and fast enough. The speed, attain to AutoGK, but the quality of the result is usually slightly higher (by a little, anyway).

Altogether now suffers from competition of free AutoMKV, which in effect allows you to do (and quite well) a lot, and with the same ease of FairUse.

Dr.Divx (Free convertion DVD to Divx)

It began as a program fee to convert DVD to Divx automatically.
He later became free (open source) is actually an open source particularly because commercial use is expressly prohibited.

Apart from that, I always found a step below AutoGK, and perhaps two steps below to AutoMKV, it lacks all the configuration possibilities of the other two competitors.
With the release of version 2.0 is improved, but the distance from the two main competitors remain important.

HandBrake (DVD to Divx convert)

Originally developed on Mac OSX, this open source program was subsequently increased even on Windows platforms. The potential is good: you can convert it into mpeg4 (.m4v) in H.264, you can choose the audio codec (MP3, AC3, AAC, Vorbis), you can choose which subtitle track and you only have subtitles forced, and so on.

Unfortunately are not supported either Divx or Xvid (AVI nothing), and even compatibility with standalone players (except if you have one can read MKV video with video x.264) is instead supported output to various Apple devices, including iPods and the like (understandable for a program for the Mac came first, and only after coming to the PC Windows).

The speed of HandBrake is remarkable, one of the fastest programs in this category, if not the fastest. The quality of the final result with the MPEG4 format is discreet, but nothing more (and also with the format x.264/MKV not greatest). Programs like AutoMKV takes much longer to encode, but the results are much better.

Compared to earlier versions, now the crop is done properly, however, often be wrong AR (ratio between height and width of the frame), resulting in flattened or elongated faces.

SimpleDivx (conversion DVD to Divx)

I found when comparing the DVD-Divx conversion programs. The quality of the results is good, on the same level of AutoGK and FairUse, but what sets it apart is the great speed. As shown in comparative table, unable to use almost half the time of FairUse, and far exceed even the fastest AutoGK.

It has many configurable options with ease, and optionally also in Italian, which could help those in difficulty with technical terms in English (as is almost fully automatic). Important for the proper functioning run the decryption of DVDs with DVD Decrypter in File Mode.

Unfortunately some DVDs have difficulties to successfully conclude the work, and this affects my opinion. It best to be hoped that in future versions, because the premises are a great conversion program.

AutoGK (Programs to convert DVD to Divx)

Very easy to use, on hitfreeware.com is a simple guide to use it (there would not even need, since it is very intuitive, yet I had been requested by many).

Converts faster than others, but this goes a bit at the expense of quality. It can choose to have the divx one or two CDs, or if audio to mp3 or AC3 (subtitles included).

In short: Fast, easy to use, and with reasonably good results, perhaps only slightly lower than the profiles of higher quality set with the competitor AutoMKV.

Unfortunately it is not yet able to recognize the DVD multi-angle (unlike MKV) and the only way to get it to work automatically with some DVD is run extraction (ripping) of a DVD in File Mode, as described in the guide.

Divx Total Pack (encoding and decoding)

Similar to the K-Lite Pack, but with the difference that only contains the codecs for decoding and encoding. This avoids many problems to conflicts between codecs (if then we want to create some divx, simply install the DivX or Xvid higher on this page).

Divx Total Pack

K-Lite codec Pack (encoding and decoding)

And codec pack, probably the most popular by far (it is known for many years now). It should be careful when you install it, and pay attention to unnecessary codecs, because they are rare cases of conflicts between codecs. Remember that the version of the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack includes Real Alternative and QuickTime Alternative.

If you can, I suggest you use Vista Codec Package or Divx Total Pack, which created fewer conflicts; I suggest K-Lite Codec Pack if you need codecs rare and rare.

Vista Codec Package

And codec pack ready for Windows Vista and XP. Codecs are installed directly, but are not touched any preferences or pre-existing associations, so as to have the least possible impact on the system.

One of the major advantages of this package is that the codecs are already configured to work immediately without any user intervention.
It can also install/uninstalling codecs without touching each other. To avoid conflicts, are automatically removed before installing any other similar codec packs.
